Account Level: Overview
The Account level is the middle layer of every budget — one major account opened up, with one row per sub-account beneath it. Where the Topsheet shows departments, the Account level shows how a department breaks down; drill once more and you're in the line items themselves.
Getting here
Double-click any account on the Topsheet (or right-click → Down to Account, press Ctrl/⌘ + ↓, or use View → Drill Down). A colored header band above the grid shows exactly where you are — the major's number and name — and the Topsheet / Account breadcrumb buttons at the top track your level.
Moving around:
- Ctrl/⌘ + ↓ drills into the selected sub-account's line items; double-clicking a row number does the same.
- Ctrl/⌘ + ↑ (or T) returns to the Topsheet.
- Ctrl/⌘ + → and ← jump to the next or previous major account without surfacing at the Topsheet — the fastest way to walk a budget department by department.
- Right-click offers Up to Topsheet and Down to Line Details; the Navigator tracks along with you.
What you're looking at
Each row is a sub-account: its number, name, and live rolled-up totals — Subtotal, T & F, Incentives, and Total — aggregated from the line items beneath it. The Use checkbox, Lock padlock, and flag chip work just as they do on the Topsheet. A partially filled Use box means some, but not all, of the line items below are suppressed.
Optional columns (via the ⋮ column menu, or hidden by default): Page, % — each sub-account's share measured against the whole budget's total, not just this major — plus Original and Variance when Show Variance Comparison is on. Line, Use, Account, and Name can't be hidden; Reset restores default widths.
The grid ends with a single read-only Total row summing the major. (The full Tax & Fringe / Gross / Net summary stack lives on the Topsheet only.) Dividers — gray spacer rows — are the one structure row available here; Production Totals and Budget Adjustments are Topsheet-only.
Editing basics
- The Edit Mode switch governs the level: with it off, everything is read-only and the right-click menu is unavailable ("Edit Mode is Off — Turn on Edit Mode to make changes to the budget.").
- If the major is locked, the whole page is read-only until it's unlocked from the Topsheet or the Navigator ("This Account is Locked").
- Rows can be dragged to reorder sub-accounts (never below the Total row).
- Selecting rows feeds the Heads Up Display and the Sidebar's Selected Total with the aggregate fringes, incentives, tags, and totals of your selection.
- Everything is undoable with Ctrl/⌘ Z (redo Ctrl/⌘ Y).
For inserting, numbering, duplicating, suppressing, locking, and flagging sub-accounts, see Working with Accounts.
Special cases
- Compare Mode — the header cards follow you down from the Topsheet, and the grid gains Compare 1 / Compare 2 and Variance columns matched sub-account by sub-account; accounts that exist only in a compare budget are appended read-only below. Editing is disabled until you Close Compare.
- Filter Budget — sub-accounts with no matching lines are hidden and every total shows the filtered amount.
- Shared budgets — a presence column appears when a collaborator is working in the same account ("Another user is working in this account").
