Currency

Budgets can use any currency—real or custom—making it easy to manage projects in one or across multiple countries.

The Currency screen in Element Manager is initially populated based on selections made during Budget Builder setup. After creating a budget, you can add, edit, and manage currencies and their settings directly from this screen.

Budget Function

The Currencies in Budget table allows users to add, remove, or edit currencies used in the budget. Currencies are applied in the Currency (Cur.) column of budget detail lines. Additionally you can set the currency for a Header Row Group from a Cast or Crew header row.

Primary Currency is the default currency the budget is based on. A primary currency is required for the budget. The primary currency is used for all Total fields in the different layers of the budget as well as totals displayed in Element Manager.

• A budget can include up to 25 different currencies.

Currency Format in this Budget

This section displays the Primary Currency used in the budget, along with the Notation and Delimiter settings that were selected during budget creation.

Currencies in Budget

The Currencies in Budget table allows you to add and manage currencies used in the budget. This includes setting the budget rate, defining the primary currency, and viewing a live snapshot of currency totals across the budget.

Adding a New Currency

1. Press the Add button at the bottom of the table.
2. A new currency is automatically assigned a default name (e.g., C01). Both system-created and custom currencies follow this naming pattern: C01, C02, C03, etc.
3. Enter either a recognized real-world currency or a custom short name in the Notation field.
4. For recognized real-world currencies, the system automatically pulls relevant data from the Currency database, including:
   • Description
   • Symbol
   • Display format
   • Delimiter
   • Budget Rate
   • Market Rate

This setup ensures flexible, accurate budgeting across multiple currencies while maintaining proper exchange rates and display formatting.

Editing a Currency

• Click into any cell to update the data. Changes are saved automatically when you click out of the cell.

Switching Primary Currency

• To change the Primary Currency, select the radio button for the desired currency. This updates all Totals in the budget based on the selected currency and performs the appropriate currency conversion calculations throughout the budget.

Notation	Displays the three-letter abbreviation for the currency (e.g., USD, EUR, GBP). When adding a new currency, enter either the abbreviation or the name of the country. If the currency is recognized, it will appear in the dropdown for selection. Custom currencies are supported and default to C01 for new entries. This field cannot be left blank.	Text
Description	Provides a description for the currency. Currencies pulled from the database will populate this field automatically, but the description can be edited. This field is optional.	Text
Symbol	Sets the symbol used to represent the currency. For database-linked currencies, this field is populated automatically.	Text
Budget Rate	Sets the exchange rate used for currency conversion within the budget. The Primary Currency is always fixed at a value of 1. Additional currencies should be assigned a market-based rate to ensure accurate calculations.	Numerical
Market Rate	Displays the current exchange rate for reference. Clicking the refresh icon fetches the latest market data and updates both the Market Rate and Budget Rate fields. The market data in Budgeter is refreshed every 24 hours.	Numerical
Total	Shows the total value associated with the selected currency in the budget. All totals are displayed in the Primary Currency and update in real time.	Numerical
In Use Lines	Displays the number of budget lines assigned to this currency. Clicking the report icon generates a detailed breakdown.	Numerical

Clicking the three-dot icon in the Options menu reveals additional actions available for the selected element.

• Rename - renames the selected Currency.
• Delete - deletes the selected currency from the budget.

Deleting a Currency

Rules: A primary currency cannot be deleted until another currency is assigned as the new primary. Once a new primary is set, you can delete the previous currency from the Currency table.

• Behavior:
  • When deleting a currency that is not in use on any lines in the budget, it is deleted immediately.
  • If the currency is in use, the user is prompted with a confirmation warning.

• If the user chooses to continue with deletion:
  • The currency is removed from the budget.
  • All lines that previously used that currency are reset to blank in the Currency column in the details level.
  • Any currency conversion math related to that currency is reset to 1.
