Reports Overview
Reports turn your budget into a finished, shareable document — a topsheet for the studio, a location breakdown for the line producer, a cashflow schedule for the bond company. Every report is built in the same five-step wizard, previewed live as you go, and exported as a PDF (Cashflow can also export CSV).
Opening Reports
With a budget open, use any of these:
| Where | How |
|---|---|
| Toolbar | Click Reports |
| Menu | File → Print or Tools → Reports |
| Keyboard | Cmd+P (Mac) / Ctrl+P (Windows / Linux) |
| Library | Right-click a budget → Print / PDF |
| Project Details | Budget → Project Details opens Reports straight to the Project Details page |
Reports open in their own Reports window. Only one Reports window exists at a time — if it's already open, these shortcuts simply bring it to the front. To report on a different budget, use the Budget dropdown at the top-left of the Reports window; it lists every budget you have open in a tab.
The Reports window
Left panel
- Budget — which open budget you're reporting on.
- Create New Report — starts the wizard from scratch.
- Project Details — the project info and logos your reports can pull in. Fill this in once per budget and every report can use it.
- Draft Report — appears if you leave a new report before saving it (see below).
- Saved Reports — every report you've saved for this budget. Click one to reopen it with all of its settings; the trash icon deletes it.
Right side
- The wizard steps across the top: Report Information → Cover Page → Header/Footer → Additional Options → Review and Create. Once you've visited a step it gets a green tick and you can jump back to it by clicking its name.
- A live Preview of the finished pages, with page navigation underneath.
- Previous / Next buttons. On the last step, Next becomes Create.
Report types
| Report | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Budget Report | The classic budget: topsheet, account detail, summaries and element listings. |
| Episodic Budget Report | Series budgets — a pattern/amort breakdown plus a topsheet per episode. |
| Location Report | Costs broken out location by location. |
| Currency Report | Costs broken out by currency, for multi-currency shoots. |
| Custom Report | Any slice of the budget you can describe — by account, smart group, location, phase, episode, tag, and more. |
| Cashflow Report | Spend spread across weeks or months, with tranches and holdback. |
Which types you see depends on your plan (and, in a workspace, on your access level). Budget Report and Episodic Budget Report are the standard reports; the others are premium reports. If Reports is greyed out, hover over it — the tooltip will tell you it isn't included in your current plan.
The workflow in brief
- Report Information — name the report and pick its type, then choose what to include. (Each report type has its own page in this section.)
- Cover Page — an optional cover and a Topsheet title page.
- Header/Footer — text for the top and bottom of every page.
- Additional Options — paper size, orientation, columns, and what detail to show.
- Review and Create — save the report for reuse, then Create the PDF.
Steps 2–5 work the same for every report type; they're covered in Creating a Report.
Saved reports and drafts
- Save it once, reuse it forever. A saved report keeps every choice you made in the wizard. Next draft, open it from Saved Reports, check the preview, and hit Create — the numbers are always pulled fresh from the budget.
- Saved reports belong to the budget they were made for, and report names must be unique (not case-sensitive).
- If you click away from a new report you haven't saved, Line Budgeter keeps it as a Draft Report in the left panel. Drafts only last while the Reports window is open — save anything you want to keep.
- Leaving a report with unsaved changes asks "Do you want to save the changes?", and closing the window mid-report asks you to confirm before discarding your work.
Good to know
- Reports always print the whole budget. Filter Budget, Compare Budgets and Variance Comparison are on-screen views only — they don't change what a report contains. Use a Custom Report to print a subset.
- The preview follows your edits. Change a number in the budget while the Reports window is open and the preview refreshes. (For shared budgets the latest data is fetched when you open Reports — reopen or reselect the budget to refresh.)
- Goalpost budgets get a simplified wizard: a Budget Report with the Topsheet only, no header/footer step, and just orientation and paper size in Additional Options.
- Sample budgets can be previewed but not exported.
- Watermarks may be required. If a workspace or the person who shared a budget with you requires watermarked reports, the watermark is switched on and locked. Likewise, if downloading reports isn't allowed for your access level, Create will tell you so.
