Line Types

Line Types define the types of transactions used in a budget. Each line in Line Budgeter is assigned a type, which allows for detailed reporting and cost analysis. You can use the system’s default Line Types or create your own custom types as needed.

Line Types help categorize budget transactions — for example, Labor, Rentals, or Purchases.

The Line Types screen in Element Manager is initially populated based on the selections made during Budget Builder setup. Once the budget is created, you can add, edit, and manage Line Types and their settings directly from this screen.

Working with Line Types

Line Types are assigned to lines in the Details level of the budget through the Types column.
They identify the type of transaction for each line, such as:

• labor - Hired employee or loan-outs
• purchases - Items or services bought
• rentals - Items or services leased/rented
• allow - General allowance of funds
• deposit - General deposit placed for goods or services
• service - A service rendered

This categorization supports cost tracking and reporting analytics.
For example, you can quickly compare how much a specific location is spending on labor versus equipment rentals or purchases.

Line Types are included by default in every budget:

• System Line Types cannot be deleted.
• They are optional to use, depending on your workflow.

Group Manager

The Group Manager lets you organize elements into custom groups for better structure and reuse. You can save groups to your Element Library, and import individual elements or entire groups from the library into your budget as needed.

Line Types Table

You can manage Line Types in your budget from the Types of Transactions table.

Adding a New Line Type

1. Press the Add button at the bottom of the table.
2. A new Line Type is automatically assigned a default name (e.g., Type1). Custom Line Types follow this naming pattern: Type1, Type2, Type3, etc.
3. Update the new Line Type with a custom name.
4. Enter an Abbreviation (e.g., MyType = M).
5. Enter a Description (optional).

Editing a Line Type

• Click into any cell to update the data. Changes are saved automatically when you click out of the cell.
• System default Line Type cannot be edited.

Use	Toggle this checkbox to enable or disable the selected line type. Disabled items remain visible in the budget but are excluded from total calculations.	Checkbox

Options Menu

Clicking the three-dot icon in the Options menu reveals additional actions available for the selected element.

• Copy to Library - copies the selected Line Type to the Element Library.
• Rename - renames the selected Line Type.
• Delete - deletes the selected Line Type from the budget.

Deleting a Line Type

Rules: System default Line Types cannot be deleted.

• Behavior:
  • When deleting a custom Line Type that is not in use on any lines in the budget, it is deleted immediately.
  • If the Line Type is in use, the user is prompted with a confirmation warning.

• If the user chooses to continue with deletion:
  • The line type is removed from the budget.
  • All lines that previously used that line type are reset to blank in the Line Type (T) column in the details level.
