Filter Budget

Filter Budget lets you look at just a slice of your budget — one location, one phase, everything over a certain amount, a single fringe — while every total on screen recalculates to match. It's a display filter: nothing is removed, and any edits you make while filtered are real edits to the budget.

Opening the filter

  • Budget → Filter Budget, or Ctrl/⌘ + 6
  • The Filter button on the Budget Toolbar

The Filter Budget dialog opens with three columns: categories on the left, the checklist in the middle, and presets on the right.

What you can filter by

Fifteen categories: Account(s), Amount, Currency, Locations, Line Types, Phases, Day Types, Company Units, Tax & Fringe, Incentives, Universals, Tags, Episodes, Hire Types (Local / Nearby / Distinct), and Affiliation (Union / Non-Union plus your own).

  • Under Account(s), majors expand to their sub-accounts; checking a major checks everything beneath it.
  • Amount is a condition, not a checklist: pick a column (All Columns, Amount, Multiplier (X), Rate, Subtotal, Total Tax & Fringe, Incentives, or Total), an operation (=, <, >, ≤, ≥), and a value — e.g. Total > 50,000.
  • A small funnel icon appears next to any category that has selections, so you can see your criteria at a glance.

How criteria combine: within a category, checked items are ORed (two locations = lines in either); across categories, they're ANDed (a location and a phase = lines matching both). Filtering is include-only — checked means shown.

Select All / Unselect All work on the current category. RESET FILTERS clears everything; FILTER BUDGET applies (it stays disabled until at least one criterion is checked); CANCEL or Escape backs out.

Presets

Save filter combinations you use repeatedly — up to 10 per budget. Add creates one ("Preset 1", "Preset 2", …; double-click to rename), and each preset's menu offers Update Preset, Reset Preset, and Delete. Filter presets are separate from Sub Budget presets.

While a filter is active

Applying the filter jumps you to the Topsheet, and all three levels stay filtered as you drill:

  • Topsheet — majors with no matching lines disappear, and production totals with nothing beneath them hide too.
  • Account level — non-matching sub-accounts are hidden, and each row's Subtotal, T & F, Incentives, and Total show only the filtered amounts.
  • Line Item Details — only matching lines (and their headers) are shown.

Every total recalculates to the filtered slice — including the grand total and net total — so the bottom line answers "how much is this costing?" The Heads Up Display and Sidebar follow along.

The banner is replaced by two buttons while filtering: Filters (reopens the dialog with your selections intact, so you can refine) and Close Filtering (exits filter mode and restores the full budget).

Editing while filtered

You can keep working — the dialog says it best: "Filtering just displays the information you want to see. Changes made are part of your current active budget." Edits save normally and the filtered totals refresh. A few things pause while filtering: Compare Budgets is unavailable (and vice versa — an active comparison disables the filter), and fringe ranges can't be created or removed.

Good to know

  • Reports, printing, and exports always use the full budget, not the filtered view. To produce a document from a slice, use Create Sub Budget instead.
  • The filter is per-session — closing the budget clears it.
  • Filter Budget isn't available on Goalpost budgets.
  • If nothing matches your criteria, the grids simply show no rows and totals read 0 — loosen the filter or hit Close Filtering.
