Multiple Windows

Line Budgeter is built for more than one screen. Budgets open as tabs, tabs can become windows, and every major tool opens in a window of its own — so you can keep the Topsheet on one monitor and the Worksheet, Calendar or a report on another.

Budget tabs

Every budget (and ratebook) you open becomes a tab in the application tab bar, next to the Dashboard tab. Click a tab to switch; click its × to close it (a shared budget also disconnects you from the live session). File → Close All Budgets closes every budget tab at once and returns you to the Dashboard.

Turning a tab into a window

When you have three or more tabs, tabs become draggable:

  • Drag a budget tab out of the tab bar (toward the desktop) and release — that budget opens in its own full application window.
  • Drag a tab onto another Line Budgeter window's tab bar to move the budget into that window.

This is the way to put two budgets side by side, or to keep one production's budget on each monitor. There is no menu command for it — it's drag-and-drop only.

Tool windows

These tools each open in their own window, and a budget can have several open at the same time:

WindowOpened from
Budget BuilderThe + button in the tab bar, or File → New Budget
Element Manager (Elements, Tax & Fringe, Incentives, Tags)Toolbar buttons or Budget → Element Manager
Ratebook Manager / Rate EntryToolbar or Tools menu
Calendar / Worksheet / Change LogToolbar, Tools menu, or the Session Tracker icons
ReportsToolbar or Tools → Reports
PreferencesToolbar gear or Budget → Budget Preferences
SidebarThe ↗ (pop-out) button on any Sidebar panel — detaches the whole Sidebar into a floating window
Account ManagerThe profile menu

Edit Mode, your selection and live totals stay in sync between a budget and its tool windows — turning Edit Mode off in the budget also locks its Calendar, Worksheet and Sidebar windows.

The Window menu

The Window menu lists Minimize and Bring All to Front, followed by every open window — the Dashboard, each open budget, and each tool window by name — so you can bring any of them forward without hunting across monitors.

Tips

  • Workspace and permission rules follow the budget into every window: a view-only budget is view-only in its Worksheet and Calendar too.
  • Closing a budget's tab closes its tool windows with it.
  • Switching workspaces closes all open budget windows first (you'll be reminded that your data is saved).
